Terms & Privacy Policy for COS (CusMe OS)
Last Updated: July 24, 2025
Welcome to COS (CusMe OS), a web-based simulated operating system designed to provide an intuitive and responsive user experience. This document outlines the terms and conditions governing your use of COS, as well as how we collect, use, and protect your information. By accessing or using COS, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Privacy Policy.
1. General Terms of Use
- COS is a simulated operating system for demonstration and entertainment purposes. It is not a full-fledged operating system and should not be used for critical tasks or sensitive data.
- All content and functionalities within COS are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.
- We reserve the right to modify or discontinue COS at any time without prior notice.
2. Privacy Policy
Your privacy is important to us. This section explains what information COS collects and how it's used.
2.1. Data Collection & Usage
COS is primarily designed to run locally in your browser and does not transmit personal identifying information to our servers. However, certain non-personally identifiable data may be collected for analytical purposes or to enable specific functionalities.
- Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to understand how our users interact with COS. This service collects anonymous traffic data such as pages visited, time spent on the site, and device type. Google Analytics does not collect personal data (e.g., your name, email address) and anonymizes your IP address. You can opt-out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Local Storage: COS uses your browser's Local Storage feature to save application state and user preferences (e.g., editor content, terminal history, window positions). This data is stored directly on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. You can clear this data at any time via your browser settings or using the "Delete All App Data" button within the COS Settings app.
- Browser Cache: Your browser will cache certain assets (images, scripts, stylesheets) to improve the loading speed and performance of COS. This data is temporary and managed by your browser. You can clear your browser's cache through your browser settings or using the "Delete All App Data" button within the COS Settings app.
- Firebase Realtime Database (for Messages App): The "Messages" application within COS utilizes Google Firebase Realtime Database to facilitate real-time communication. When you use the Messages app, the content of your messages (text) will be stored on Firebase servers to enable message delivery and persistence. This data is associated with your anonymous user ID generated by Firebase, and we do not collect any personal identifying information in conjunction with your messages. We take reasonable measures to secure this data, but please be aware that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.
2.2. Permissions
COS may request certain browser permissions to enable specific features. These permissions are requested directly by your browser, and COS does not store or transmit data obtained through these permissions unless explicitly stated.
- Camera Access (
navigator.mediaDevices.getUserMedia
): When you open the "Camera" application within COS, your browser will prompt you for permission to access your device's camera. This access is solely for displaying a live video stream within the camera app itself. COS does not record, save, or transmit any video or image data from your camera.
- Location Access: When you open applications such as "Maps" or "Weather" within COS, your browser will prompt you for permission to access your device's geographical location. This access is used to provide more accurate and relevant map displays and weather forecasts. Your location data is used in real-time within the application and is not stored on our servers or transmitted to third parties beyond what is necessary for the functionality of the map and weather services (e.g., sending an anonymized location query to a weather API). You can revoke this permission at any time through your browser settings.
- Other Potential Permissions: Future features might require additional browser permissions (e.g., microphone for voice commands, notifications). Should these be implemented, access will always be requested by your browser, and data handling practices will be updated in this policy.
3. Data Security
While COS does not transmit your personal data to our servers (with the exception of message content in the "Messages" app via Firebase), we prioritize the security of all data. For data stored locally on your device, its ultimate security depends on your browser's security features and your device's overall security. For data transmitted to Firebase (Messages app), Firebase provides its own security measures, and we implement industry-standard practices to protect our applications from vulnerabilities.
4. Creative Commons
Do not copy or take code containing COS (CusMe OS) content.
5. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Terms & Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
